Signal Processing of Intraoral Pressure Curves

چکیده
Human teeth are susceptible to pressure exertion ; the exertion of a constant low force between 0.1 and 0.5 N results in a change in tooth position ( Prof t, 1978 ). Therefore, tooth alignment in subjects who have not undergone orthodontic treatment is a product of an equilibrium of forces exerted on the teeth. Beside pressure from the lips ( Thüer and Ingervall, 1986 ), the cheeks , and the tongue ( Thüer et al. , 1999 ), a rarely considered factor is subatmospheric intraoral pressure. Subatmospheric pressures arise naturally in intraoral compartments, e.g. in the subpalatal space (SPS) and interocclusal space (IOS ; Engelke et al. , 2010 ), and can be measured by a digital measuring instrument ( Fröhlich et al. , 1991 ; Figure 1 ). Pressures are measured within a prede ned time interval, yielding time-dependent pressure curves that can be denoted by p t ( t = 1, . . . , T ). Curves from patients with different forms of malocclusion can be compared by certain characteristics, for example, the average ( Thüer et al. , 1999 ) or maximum ( Kieser et al. , 2008 ) pressure. Further curve characteristics are for example the area under the curve (AUC) and the number of swallowing peaks and plateau phases ( Engelke et al. , 2010 ; Knösel et al. , 2010 ). Kinetics analysis of electrophoretic deposition using small signal and large signal modeling, Case study: Nano-Mullite suspension
Having sufficient and accurate understanding about kinetics of phenomena, could be an important reason for further technological progresses. Finding a white-box mathematical model for weight vs. time curves of Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD) using large and small signal analysis has been studied thoroughly in the present investigation. Weight-Time curves of nano-Mullite suspension have been tr...
متن کاملA comparison of subglottal and intraoral pressure measurements during phonation.
Intraoral pressure and subglottal pressure, derived from tracheal puncture, were recorded with the electroglottographic signal for one normal speaking male during phonation. The mean subglottal pressure for vowels was also estimated by interpolating the intraoral pressure from surrounding /p/occlusions. The pressure measurements were highly correlated (r = 0.98) and there were small pressure va...

متن کاملEfficiency of Caries Detection Using Two Types of Intraoral Films under Different Processing Conditions
Introduction: The image quality as well as film speed is influenced by the film processing conditions. Different combinations of films and processing methods affect the diagnostic accu-racy. Temperature and developer exhaustion result in different image quality. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of film type and processing conditions on caries detec-tion. Material a...
متن کاملVoicing contrast in Turkish: Simultaneous measurements of acoustics, EPG and intraoral pressure
The aim of this study was to investigate the Turkish voicing contrast with simultaneous measurements of acoustics, EPG and intraoral pressure. We further aimed to understand the mechanisms behind the maintenance or disappearance of voicing in Turkish. According to our results, intraoral pressure rises more slowly for voiced sounds than for their voiceless counterparts. Voiced fricatives have sh...
